Słabości eksplanacyjne teorii inteligentnego projektu

Artykuł powstrzymuje się od polemiki merytorycznej z teorią inteligentnego projektu, dalej TIP, a jedynie wskazuje na jej niedostatki metodologiczne. Dowodzi, że wbrew twierdzeniom jej zwolenników TIP nie jest falsyfikowalna. W odróżnieniu od teorii ewolucji nie może pełnić nawet roli metafizycznego programu badawczego w sensie Poppera. Co jednak ważniejsze, TIP nie pełni żadnych funkcji eksplanacyjnych. W grę wchodzą jedynie wyjaśnienia intencjonalne, TIP zaś nie jest w stanie zidentyfikować motywów domniemanego projektanta. Should the teaching of biological evolution include the origin of life?

The development of mainstream research on the origin of life as an outcome of Darwinian evolution is discussed. It is argued that prebiotic evolution and the origin of life should not be excluded from the syllabus and should be part of classes on biological evolution, and that the transition from non-living to living matter is best understood when seen as part of evolutionary biology. The wide acceptance of evolutionary approaches to the study of the emergence of life in European and Latin American countries is discussed.

In the reply it is argued, first, that the argument from low probability does not work in the absence of additional assumptions. Second, arguments from laboratory, vestigial structures, and imitating nature in technology are reversed against ID. Third, the question of telling artefacts from natural objects is discussed in the context of the search for explanation. Finally, the neglect of the requirements for an explanation to be non-vacuous on the part of ID theorists is said to drive ID towards fideism rather than science.
